It is with regret that I hav to announce to announce that The Hungry Fox, Broadclyst has ceased trading as of the 23rd June 2012.
This is because the freehold sale of the building ahs gone through & the new owners, do not wish to keep it operating as a Pub/Restaurant.
I would like to thank all my staff & customers over the last 10 months for their support & custom, because without you there would not have been The Hungry Fox.
Again many thanks to you all.
I have relocated to The Prince of Wales in Ross on Wye, Herefordshire. Hope to see some of you there if visitig the Wye Valley.
Thank you Paula, Last Landlady & Chef The Hungry Fox.

Accomodating a party of twenty was a mean feat in itself topped by excellent food served by smiling faces in a warm & friendly manner I can not reccomend any higher attainable standards. It is not humanly possible. Thanks to all at the Hungry Fox who helped make a family celebration something really special.

The service and food was excellent. This is not our local but would definitely go there for meals again. There were twenty of us and most of us had three course meals, everyone loved the food and the service that was given by all the staff. Thank you, thank you, thank you for a perfect night

We visited for a meal on Friday; a special request had been ordered on the Thursday for 2 Beef Wellingtons. The food was superb, and the steak so tender and cooked exactley how I like it. the service and the atmosphere was brilliant, as was the friendliness of the staff. I felt the meal was cooked to perfection, at a very reasonable cost, will definitely be back, and cannot reccomend highly enough

The Hungry Fox has just been taken over by a lady called Paula. She knows what she is doing and has had plenty of experience. The phone lines were cut off when the pub shut, therefore temporarily the pub is only taking cash, this will be changing in the next few weeks when the lines have been checked. There is a new menu with fresh home made locally sourced food, even delicious home made chips! Paula aims to return The Hungry Fox's reputation but she knows this may take time.

Did not book but traveled there to have a celebratory birthday meal. Sign on door " no credit or debit cards accepted " Do not carry enough cash as nearly all places take cards. Went elsewhere and will not be back !

We hadn't visited "The Hungry fox" in years, bit apprehensive as it had changed hands a few times, well the food was excellent, lovely choice on the menu, & good price. BUT
These might be petty things but they all add to the overall experience, not enough cutlery on the table to do all courses, then if not needed they can be taken away. Waitress was singing to the music around our table, a little off putting whilst your eating a meal. It just felt like they need to have a bit of waitress experience (sorry waitress's) not your fault.
But food was excellent.

Hi - I'm the new cook at the Hungry Fox. Obviously what I'm about to say has a bias but I'll try to be honest.
I inherited a pub which used to do some great food but had recently sort of lost it.
Me I just want to do good food, at reasonable prices and even if the menu looks a bit "ordinary" - try the food, it's extraordinary.
Highlights are:
The Thursday Night curries - "As good, if not better, than most Indian restaurants" to quote one of my customers.
The Sunday carvery - meats traditionally roasted and with proper roasties and Yorkshires - no "Aunt Bessies" here.
Fresh fish arrives from Plymouth every Friday - check out the blackboard for details.
All this and much, much more - trust me I'm the cook ;)

The Lease is up for sale again after all the reviews in the local paper about a relaunch, its a pity Broadclyst is an ideal place for a young, enthusiastic and talented team to excel and the Fox is ideally situated it is a pity it never lives up to its wonderful location.........come on im sure someone out there can take the bull by its horns (or fox by its tail)and make a go of the HUNGRY FOX.

Visited after a friend of mine had a good meal here, and also as i saw the article in Exeter Living.
Its so nice to go to a pub thats not over the top has a decent menu and serves good honest food.
You can tell this is private and not part of a chain as you get proper food thats not from a packet, my wife enjoyed the chocarocka cake to finish, i washed my meal down with a decent latte.
A pleasant evening and very much as the place was described in the article.

Having seen a recent article in the Exeter Living praising the quality and food at the Hungry Fox,and a friend who went there for Valentines we decided to give it a try.
We were not dissapointed, the new decor was a real delight compared with the old, and the food and service matched our expectations, the Hungry Fox know there place in the market and stick to what they know best.
Good Stuff

Are there two establishments in the Broadclyst area called the Hungry Fox.
The first one is full of really really interesting things where the food is like ambrosia and the staff all trained in etiquette at Buckingham Palace and the gastronomes eat fish from boards instead of the traditional plates.
My colleagues and I must have found the second one a typical english inn serving mediocre pub grub and charging bistro prices. There is no magic formula to keeping customers happy serve local in season produce, locally supplied does not mean locally produced, cooked correctly serve it with a smile and charge reasonable prices.
The food although nothing to get excited about, the usual assortment of lamb shank, steak and kidney pies, steak etc was edible and the young serving staff approachable.

went to this inn with a party of 4 there was a live band playing very LOUD MUSIC the place was not exactly jumping but busyish.Slow service and they really pushed the drinks the food was ok had a lot better had a lot worse the whole experience best described as a mish mash of LOUD MUSIC and mediocre food as if the Hugry Fox can not make its mind up what it wants to be .We noticed a previous comment about excellent selection of cheese and biscuits COSCO has an excellent selection of cheese and biscuits but I would not want to spend my saturday night there.

I took my wife for an evening meal at the Hungry Fox to celebrate a promotion at work, havnt been there for a long while.
Was impressed with the new decor, and the new menu, chose to eat off the fish board and we enjoyed what we had, would of liked to of of seen more choice with the real ales, but apart from this we will be returning.

Visited with some friends for a meal .
Despite the pub being very busy ,as there was live music that night, the staff were all very friendly and helpful. We all had an excellent meal followed by a superb cheese and biscuit selection. We will be making a repeat visit

My husband and mother-in-law and myself visited the Hungry Fox last night the service was ok but the food was very mediocre verging on bland the evening was spoilt when my husbands rare steak was served well done the manageress argued furiously that he had ordered well done(they could have cooked another steak in the time she spent forcing her opinion on us) the waitress later apologised that she had got the orders mixed up.My verdict on the Hungry Fox would be AVOID

After a visit to the Hungry Fox with two of my work friends I am absolutely flaberghasted by the attitude of the manageress. How do people with little or no social skills end up running a pub.My friends and I are not naughty children and do not expect to be talked to like one. They do not have a divine right to take our hard earned money or expect us to put up with rudeness there are plenty of other establishments in the Exeter area to eat in.

We can remember this pub from a few years ago and were looking forward to another visit. The first thing that took us by suprise was the fact that the tables had no place mats and the solitary candle remained unlit throughout our ordeal. There was no curtains or blinds at the windows, cosy definately does not spring to mind,my wife had the chicken and bacon in tarragon sauce best described as bland,I settled on the reccomended locally caught fresh trout,it was farmed and overcooked the accompanying 'fresh local vegtables"should have read locally bought frozen,We tried to discuss our observations and discrepancy over the description of trout and vegetables with whom we assumed was the hostess (we asked to speak to mein host but he was not available)Dismisive would be a polite way of putting her reaction,All in all it is a great shame as I am looking to book a sitting for 10 on christmas day.My advice to the Hungry Fox is do not charge 10 quid plus for mediocre service and food,to be completly honest out of ten for effort we would give a 2

Visited the Hungry Fox early evening with my wife, the plan was for a light meal and a couple of drinks, the reception we got from the manageress can only be described as frosty verging on hostile, the atmosphere in the pub appeared to be tense,on the plus side the G&T's went down well did not stay for the meal

Really disappointed with the meal. Ordered chicken breast with bacon and mushroom in a white wine, cream and tarragon sauce at a price of over £9.00. What we got was about 3 small chunks of chicken and bacon in a rather tasteless sauce, on complaining was told this was how it was cooked with chopped chicken and if we wanted to wait at least another 20 minutes as they had other people to serve then they would cook us another portion - what was the point if this was how it was cooked!! Will certainly not be returning
